Write in June - Preparation

I'm preparing for the challenge starting on the 1st of June, which is Friday in Oz. 50k's in 30 days, is my target. I'm going to try for 2.000 plus words, five days a week. I did this for the last two years and was surprised as some days my word count was well over 2.000.  I hope this will continue this June.

It's exciting starting a new wip, inventing new characters, and putting them into place with lots of obstacles. lol...

I've completed a collage with the main characters, scenes, animals, relations, etc, and I have the main plot, with lots of subplots. The characters are almost in place, but I feel I need to know them more, so I'm filling out High Concert Worksheets. I am finding them a great help.

I have also used the plotting wheel technique, and when I read it over the weekend all my subplots, and the main characters back story have jumped into place. I can't believe how much the plotting wheel has helped.

Also I've filled out sheets on Story Structure, and I'm delighted that everything is falling into place.

I've been reading a leaflet which states the first page sells the story, and the last page sells the book. Interesting concept.

They say you have to know the structure of your story, and how the subplots will eventuate then you can create the perfect setup and payoff. (the opening and the ending)

I totally agree. Although I have the opening in mind, it's a first draft and like the rest of the novel will require changes/edits when I finish. I also have a working title in place, but this will change during the duration of my writing. I usually end of with a few titles.

I'll do a kick off post on Friday. I'll also put a counter on this blog to shout my word count to the world. lol...

Wish me luck. I love challenges. I cannot wait.

Bye 4 now, :)

OMG! I am so unprepared. Very impressed, Suz. Must dig out that plotting wheel. I'm down for 15k & will be happy if I achieve my goal.
Let the games begin.

Hi Kerri,
I usually start at nine, and I think from memory it takes me about one and a half hours. It's not an all day thing. :)

Thanks for stopping in.
