Small Towns in the sticks. :)

I was born on the edge of the Outback, as most of you know. Most of my life I travelled from the outback to cities, and to coastal towns, but the country has a way of trying to drag me back. It succeeds at times. :)  I guess that's why my Grandmother stayed on the edge of the outback or in a small rural town. They say I'm a lot like my Grandmother, and that fact does me proud. :)

Over 100 years after the mining of tin was established in 1871, Tingha is a quiet, almost silent town where it boasts a distinctive character. The landscape is filled with rocky outcrops and huge granite boulders. Vertical slate homes still remain and are occupied. Old steam engines also dot the landscape. The soil is a yellow brown and lifeless, remains of dredging and mining repeatedly.

My Great Grandparents lived in this tiny town all their life, and are buried there. My Grandmother joined them in the year 2000 (I miss her so much) :( after living in the outback on various properties and in a small towns. God bless their souls.

On a recent visit to the area, it brought an eerie stillness. It's unusally quiet, dry, and damn hot. lol.. but it holds a certain charm as some of the shops lining the main street have stood for over a 100 years. It's like stepping back in time, and I picture my Great Grandparents walkng that very soil, and my Granmother as a small child playing in the dry paddocks.

It sure is like stepping back in time.

How cool is that? Looks like they could use a bit of rain though.

Yes, I'm not sure about their rainfall Sandy, but a good downpour wouldn't hurt. :)
