Promoting

This is a short post..... and yes, okay I know I should be plotting that next manuscript to start on the 1st of September, but I still have a few days left :)

I wanted to talk about promoting a novel. Naturally for most of us promoting is online. E-books and print books. The Internet is a wonderful networking tool that can help most of us, but....

How do we go about getting the right and best possible exposure?  I have posted on blogs, am looking into Coffee time romance, Manic Readers, etc. and word of mouth is good so they say.
I'm not a big fan of blog tours, as this doesn't really work, or it didn't for me in the past. Hanging out in Forums, being there and getting known, also joining writers platform blogs. This is only mentioning a few, there are lots lots more. Join groups such as Author's Den, Goodreads etc....

Where haven't I gone, or what don't I know in developing a Writers Platform? What has worked for you, or what have you done that gave you the exposure you need?

Hi Suzanne,
Don't think you got my last comment, I'll try again. But this is probably not new to you.
In short: I spoke to a lovely lady at Nielson Book data, she said get copies of my book and send them off with a covering letter, details of where they can order etc, to book stores such as QBD and Dymocks. I've yet to do this. I've sent a book to Rosemary's Romance Bookstore in Brisbane, about 3 weeks ago, haven't heard anything yet. Hope this helps, Cheers ~~ Lucy

Hi Louise,

That is a terrific idea. I never thought about that avenue. Thank you.

Keep those tips coming please. :)

You can check out places like www.bookbzzr.com and give readers a taste of your book. It posts on your web page, and on blogs you post to. Hope this helps.

Great topic Suzanne, and I'm loving the changes you've made to your blog.

My first two books were bestsellers at amazon, ARe, and my publisher's site, but they were both anthologies so I don't know how many copies were sold because of the reviews and author's promotions.

My new book is all mine and this publisher isn't know for high sales, so this really gives me a chance to test my marketing skills. I've got a few things I will be trying out to sell the book so I'll let you know if any of them work. Right now, I'm just plotting a blog tour, six sentense Sunday, and a few banner/book cover slots at review sites, but I will be adding to that list.

Oh just thought I'd say...when I have my list and try them out, I'll pop the links up for everyone to have a look at. You never know you might fing what you're looking for. )

Sounds like you're doing all the right things, Suzanne. Remember local media are always keen to talk to local authors so keep them in the loop and cultivate those contacts year round.

I wish I'd used Goodreads more to promote my new releases - I plan on doing that next year - and there's an Aussie version called Reading Room that's fairly new.

Anything that gets you national promos like Booktopia is also great :)

Hi Helene,
Thanks...I will look into them. Nothing like looking forward. :)

I'm afraid I've nothing to suggest in addition to what you're already doing. I found it interesting, though, that you find blog tours don't help and will note that for when (if) I have have a book to promote :0)
