Plotting a Novel

Some of us plot some of us don't, but for me I start with a basic plot. I develop an idea about characters and write it all down. I invent names and fill in character sheets. Then from that single idea, the plot, all these subplots begin to branch out.

I write a brief summary of each scene in order of how they appear in the story. Although I know there will be gaps but for me this is a great general guideline. Then I analyse the plot scenes and see if they move the story forward. Each scene needs to reveal something new. Hmmm.. :) Then there are major turning points. What works and what doesn't.

Opening scene. the tone the mood the action.
Introduce the heroine, the stakes, and her goal.
A life changing event for the heroine.
Action. The heroine must act on this event.

Once I'm there in the action I just write and keep on going. The characters take over for me, and they take me on a journey.

Well it always doesn't work out like this, but this is usually my plan. So over the next week I'll be plotting, setting up scenes and characters once again, and diving into a world of action, suspense and love.
Let's hope I come up with something just as good as my last two novels.

Okay, well I was supposed to be plotting this week and haven't done a thing. I better get cracking. I may be starting the September challenge over at Rachel John's site. http://rachaeljohns.blogspot.com/ I need that plot first before I can act,.

Okay talk soon, I'm off to think. lol. :)
