Face to face Writing Groups

On Saturday I met with fellow writers and authors in Newcastle, one of my two face to face groups. Ericia Hayes, Sandie Hudson, Mary Dedas, Heather Boyd, Suzanne Hamiliton, and Kerrie Pltomey, and Deb. Sorry I don't know Debs last name, as she is relatively new. New as for Newcastle, Mait as for Maitland. We meet at the library which has a lovely little cafe to the side. Perfect to fill our stomachs after a hard mornings work. :)

It was lovely to catch up again. It was a fantastic meeting. They all brainstormed my character in my novel,  and also had a look at subplots. We undertook character interview sheets as well, and it made me realise I needed to know my main character a whole lot better. We went over blurbs and pitches. So as you can see we covered quite a lot of ground. It was so helpful. They are so helpful. :)

I didn't get around to getting any writing related work done yesterday, but I plan to put the results of all the above into action this afternoon.  :)  Do you brainstorm with your writer friends, and if so, do you get good results? :)

I've just realised...lol...I thought it was the first of June this Friday, and panic stations were happening. Phew, I've got a week to go for the 50k's in 30 days... Yah... lol....

Hey Suz
I have some great character worksheets from a course I am doing. I will bring them along next week. Are you coming to the next 4PAN meeting?.... Luckily it is on the 31st... and not the 1st!

Love catching up with fellow writers, Suzanne. Our group does a bit of craft, some brainstorming and lots of supporting. Works well for us.

Personally I tend to only brainstorm with my husband and my sister (and then more in a rambling monologue according to hubbie...)

I definitely interview my characters though and that works a treat for finding out the quirky details that make them unique!

Hi Annie,
Yes, I'll be at the next meeting. I'm glad it's on the 31st, can enjoy the day and celebrate the following day. lol. :)

Hi Helene,
I've enjoyed the interviews you've undertaken on your blog. It really is good knowing characters of a novel so indepth.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day.

Suzanne :)

Face to face groups are great. I really miss having one but no one lives near me :(

That's a shame Rach. I've got to drive two and a half hours south, and then two hours, sometimes more or less north to get to them. Not many romance writers around me either. :)

I don't go to any face to face groups as I work full time, and I haven't been able to get to them. Lame excuse.
Two groups must be fasinating.

Tarnya. x

I miss my F2F group. But trying to get people to commit to something is hard. Even myself. I'm not trying to pat myself on the back because I am a slacker. I need to feel beholden to someone else to get my arse moving. So good for you for being the type of person who DOES something.

Hi Tarnya,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I love my writing groups. You should try to get to one now and again. :)

Hey, Tami. If you were here I'd get you moving. lol... But we aren't all the same, and some people can do without them. As for me, no way. I love the brainstorming, the critiquing, the food, and the chat. lol... :)
